Line6 DL4/MM4/FM4 firmware images

Here is my collection of firmware dumps for this series. The DL4 and MM4 are from pedals I've owned or repaired, the FM4 image I found online.

Stickers on the EEPROMs and text data in the images refer to version numbers but I've never actually seen any different revisions.

I am still hoping to do a mod to switch between different firmware images. I was hoping that I could find larger pin-compatible EEPROM and toggle some address pins but the larger chips seem to have different pin-outs. Making an adapter board to go in place of the socket is probably the way to go but I haven't really had the time.

Once again, if there are copies of the firmware from the AM-4 and DM-4 please get in touch.

  1. hi there.
I was thinking of stacking the chips on top of each other and just switch the select line as I did for the pre set storage.
Thanks for the files. I have an DM4 so will send you that file . I have some chips , but I don't have the right programmer to program them so I will have to have a look on Ebay. What programmer do you use ? was it cheap ? Thanks for the files all the best adam.

  2. I use a TL866 programmer, bought from ebay. I don't know if stacking chips is necessary. The original IC is only 512kbit, I would prefer to use say a 2 Mbit replacement and toggle the most significant address lines to change between different firmwares. I haven't found a compatible chip for a reasonable price though.

    1. In terms of gathering all the firmware images: no, I just have these 3.

In terms of a switchable mod, not really. I have just repaired a DL4 I had kicking around which means I have 2 units to play with. This is nice as one can be developed on and the other used as a working unit for comparison.

There's no timeline though. I usually get to these whenever I have some free time, and there is more stuff in the repair queue right now to work at.

  10. Hi. I have a green Line6 Echo Pro (rack version) with the firmware eprom dead. The label says v1.3.. Is it the same code written on the eprom for the DL4? Btw they are different: my rack has an old-style IC for the eprom. Thank You

  16. I actually have AM4 and DM4 boards but haven't dumped the ROMs. Maybe early in the new year :)

    1. That would’ve been awesome. I wonder if they’re going to work as I don’t recall seeing abbreviations on the main board for these.

Anyway I need to make a copy of DL4 as it seems to freeze when on “looper mode”

  17. They should work. According to the schematics the AM4 and DM4 are mono and have higher gain/output amplitude to drive an amp or power amp. Putting them into a DL4 should just give a "quieter" version.

  18. I just asked for access to the dl4 and the mm4 dumps via drive. I hope you are still active. I had a working MM4 and a not working DL4. All voltages ok. Then I decided to put the DL4 ROM into the MM4 although I knew, it would need the dram to work. With the DL4 ROM the LEDs lit up, so I guessed it is ok, but after putting back the MM4 rom the LEDs won't light up any more. Anyone got an idea? I wasn't talking care of ESD that might have killed the MM4 rom...

  19. I just found out, that I can get the files via my PC. Didn`t work over the phone. Well thank you, now I just have to find the chips and a way to program them. Hopefully that will make the MM4 work again, and then i will see about the DL4.
